This Winter was pretty cold compared to previous Winters in California. Here are 7 easy ways to stay warm during cold weather!

A great way to “increase heat in your body is to stay fully covered. This may seem obvious, but wearing a hat is not going to prevent the cold. Actually, the statement that most of your body’s heat escapes from your head is wrong. Any place that is exposed can release body heat, so it is important to stay covered during chilly weather.

Most wouldn’t think to turn on the ceiling fan when you are cold, but it can help make a warmer environment. Warm air rises to the ceiling, and the fan can help bring cold air up from the ground, and make sure the heat is circulating around the room. Make sure to set your ceiling fan to its lowest level and make it rotate in a clockwise direction to get the full effect.

Though a cold shower may not sound completely inviting, cold showers give you a longer feeling of heat. Hot showers warm you up right away, but cold showers improve blood circulation between skin and organs. Cold showers also have a multitude of other benefits. Another easy way to warm up the whole house is to invite people over! You may just be distracted from the cold while enjoying time with friends and family, but also more people means more body heat! Inviting people over is an easy and fun way to stay warm!

This may be surprising to some, but composting can produce heat! When organic matter goes through a microbial breakdown, it produces heat! Some people do this to warm up showers or greenhouses, but in small areas, you just might be able to feel a difference in the air! There are also several other benefits to composting, so this tip can help in many different ways!

Have you found that even after piling on a ton of blankets, you’re still cold? An easy way to solve this problem is to put your fluffier blanket closer to your skin. Thinner, denser blankets should be placed on top to prevent heat loss. Also, leave a little space between the wall and your bed. This can help you to feel warmer!

There are many foods you can eat to help you stay warmer! Examples of these are bananas, ginger tea, oats, coffee, red meat, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, turmeric, onions and several others. Anything that takes longer to digest will create more heat in your body. Even drinking water can help increase body heat! Though some alcohol is ok, if you want to stay warmer, try to avoid it. Drinking alcohol may make you feel warmer at first, but it can make it harder to stay warmer for a long period of time. Alcohol can actually lower your body’s core temperature. There are many things you can eat or drink to stay warm!
