Helpful Tips to Keep the House Clean & House Cleaning Coupons – Part 1
Sure – we get it – the house can be a mess by the end of the week and the last thing you want to do is house cleaning over the weekend. This is the reality for many of us and we end up with social plans on weekends and oftentimes enter the following week with a dirty house. There are some simple things you can do to minimize the house cleaning work on weekends. For example:
- Leave the shoes at the door: It is surprising to see so many families openly allow shoes to be worn inside the house. Carpets get very dirty and shoes bring in all kinds of germs and nastiness into the house. Leave the shoes at the door and maintain a strict policy about it. Many families oftentimes have indoor slippers in their entryway in which to walk around the house. Every time shoes are worn inside the house, you should consider vacuuming at the end of every day. Sounds ridiculous, but it will be necessary if you don’t leave shoes at the door!
- Finish cleaning dishes and clean the kitchen every night: We have a strict policy in our household – that the kitchen cannot be left in less than perfect condition. That means all dishes need to be washed to put in the dishwasher, all countertops need to be wiped down, floors need to be swept, and the sinks need to be wiped down. This process can take a good 30-45 minutes if the kitchen is busy on a particular night, but it is worth it. There is nothing quite like waking up and walking into a clean kitchen in the morning to start your day. Dirty kitchens could spoil your mood in the morning.
- Don’t be sentimental about trash: Years ago I made a decision that I would not hang on to things that my kids brought home from school. Sure, their art projects were amazing to look at and perfect scores on assignments felt wonderful to hold in my hands. At some point though the amount of “stuff” started to accumulate and I ran of out space in our drawers. How much stuff can you keep? I hand-selected the things that were most special or important and threw away the rest. It had to be done and since then I have found that the adage ‘out of sight out of mind’ is perfect for our home.
- Prepping meals ahead of time: Budgeting time on evenings or weekends to prep food items ahead of time can make a difference in the cleanliness of your home. Cut your veggies ahead of time and store them in the fridge. Brine your meats a day or two in advance so you get a tender, juicy dish every time. During the weekdays, you can avoid the messiness of peeling onions, garlic, ginger, and all the logistics for foundational foods by staying ahead of it and preparing in advance. If you commit to cleaning the kitchen at the end of every meal, then prepping ahead of time can save on the cleaning time.
