7 Self Care Tips

Sometimes, life can be stressful and you just need some time to relax and take a day off, but what if you don’t have that time? Here are some quick and easy ways to care for yourself and hopefully feel better!

When thinking of self-care, sunlight is usually not the first thing to come to mind, but sunlight has many health benefits. According to Healthline, “Exposure to sunlight is thought to increase the brain’s release of a hormone called serotonin. Serotonin is associated with boosting mood and helping a person feel calm and focused.” Sunlight also has Vitamin D. Even just spending a couple of minutes in sunlight can help you have a better day.

On the other hand, getting a good amount of sleep is crucial to your body’s health. While you’re sleeping your body sorts your memories from the day and chooses which ones to keep and to “discard”. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, “Getting enough quality sleep at the right times can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety. … During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health. In children and teens, sleep also helps support growth and development.” It is so important to get a good night’s sleep. It can help improve your day!

A great way to inspire and calm yourself down is Podcasts. There are many motivational podcasts out there! They can help to inspire you to be healthier, more productive, happier, and in many other ways. Also, podcasts are just audio, so you can listen to one when you are doing something else and multitask! 

Often when you are busy, you can forget about your skin. Caring for your skin is important, especially during dry weather. One great product known for helping your skin is jade rollers. According to April Franzino on Good Housekeeping, “Jade rollers are said to do everything from sculpting, toning, and firming skin to boosting circulation, enhancing glow, reducing puffiness, minimizing fine lines, improving elasticity, detoxifying, and helping skincare products penetrate better.” As said above, jade rollers can help your skin in several different ways. 

Another quick and helpful thing you can do to care for yourself is quick workouts. Several free YouTube channels show you provide you with guidance and workout strategies. There are also many free apps in which you can learn and do different exercises and log your workouts. Even if you only have 10-15 minutes, you can still fit in a quick workout that packs a punch. Also, exercising has numerous health benefits. According to Harvard Health, “Exercise reduces levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol. It also stimulates the production of endorphins, chemicals in the brain that are the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.” Even just a couple of minutes of exercise can boost your productivity and your health. 

Caring for yourself also means watching what you’re eating. Though making a healthier meal can be slightly more time-consuming than warming up a Cup Noodles ®, they will pay off in the long run. Some great, healthy examples of breakfasts or lunches on the go are Overnight Oats, Oatmeal Cookies, Fruit Salad, Veggie Salad, Eggs and Veggies, and many more. (You can find recipes for these meals online) Eating healthier is a great and easy way to take care of yourself.
