Productive Habits to Become a Morning Person
Sometimes getting out of bed and doing something productive can be hard; but with these tips and habits, hopefully, your morning will be a little bit easier.
1. Wake up an hour before you need to.
Whether you need to leave the house or be at your desk by a certain time, waking up an hour before you need to be somewhere is a great way to stay ahead of it. Especially if you are working from home, it’s tempting to wake up just in time to change, brush your teeth, and get something to eat. But, if you wake up an hour earlier, you will have enough time to get fully dressed, eat a nice breakfast, and probably won’t be as tired when you start work.
2. Get up as soon as your alarm goes off
Hearing your alarm ring might be your least favorite sound, especially after a later night. Though it may seem hard, just push yourself to get out of bed right when your alarm goes off. This will get you out of your bed, and less likely to hit snooze two or three times after it. If it helps, try keeping your alarm away from your bed so you have to get up to turn it off. Some apps make you answer questions to turn off your alarm.
3. Play Music/Do something uplifting
For my sanity, I am constantly listening to music, and it can change my mood pretty quickly. If you just aren’t feeling it, try playing your favorite music, and it can be a complete game-changer. If you would rather do something else, listen to a podcast, watch a short video, or do something you enjoy before you start work.
4. Put your phone away early
Especially with the rise of TikTok, scrolling through your phone at the end of the day can be so relaxing, but sometimes, you might lose track of time and can be on your phone for hours. Also, try to avoid looking at work-related things on your phone in the night. It can help to keep you less stressed, and won’t “tempt” you to start something in the night. Going on your phone for a few minutes shouldn’t be a problem, but try to put your phone away before you get into bed.
5. Prepare things the night before
Mornings are often rushed because there are so many things to do, but preparing things the night before can make the morning a lot easier. You can lay out your clothes, make or even just decide what you are going to have for breakfast, pack your bag, clean your desk, or anything that will help you make the morning a little bit smoother.
6. Wear nice/regular clothes
Working from home can make changing into regular clothes seem very unappealing, however staying in your sweats or night clothes will make you feel unproductive, or tired. Now, you don’t need to wear a suit and tie, but changing into something you would usually wear to work or even just grocery shopping will help put you in the right mindset to work.
7. To-do list/plan your day
If you’ve tried to become a more productive person in the past, you might have already heard this tip several times before, but it can be really helpful. You can do it the night before or in the morning. Just write down everything you want to get done for that day. Something you can do to organize your priorities is to write numbers by importance for all of your tasks. If you don’t end up getting everything done, it’s okay, you can add it to the next day’s list. Having a to-do list will organize your tasks, and make sure you don’t forget anything!
8. Eat a fulfilling breakfast
I think we all know that breakfast is “the most important meal of the day”, but why do people say this? Breakfast cures your hunger from the night. If you were to stay awake at night, you would get hungry every two to three hours just like in the daytime. Our body “ignores” this hunger because we are sleeping, so when we wake up in the morning, we most likely haven’t eaten anything in eight to ten hours. If you eat something nutritious and healthy, breakfast will give you energy for the day. Also, eating breakfast is proven to jumpstart your metabolism, and get your body ready for the day.
9. Drink liquids!
Whether you drink coffee, tea, or just water, drinking liquids in the morning is very important! Drinking water is important in general, but what are the benefits of drinking it specifically in the morning?
-It can improve your blood flow
-Can release toxins from your system (especially bacteria in your mouth)
-Prevents kidney stones
-Protects colon and bladder from infection
As I mentioned before, when you go to sleep, you aren’t eating or drinking anything, so replenishing your body with water is important so you don’t get dehydrated.
Hopefully, these nine tips can help boost your productivity and motivate you to do more in the morning!
