Gentle Post-Thanksgiving Detox Plan to Recover From The Food Overload
Most of us wait impatiently for Thanksgiving to overindulge without guilt. This is a time when overeating is allowed and even expected, but the good feeling of having a stomach full of good food ends after all the food is gone and you realize that although you enjoyed every bite, eating that much was not really that necessary.
Fortunately, there is a way to get your body back in balance and recover after all those goodies.
Here is a gentle post-Thanksgiving detox plan that you can follow:
1. Morning: Glass of water
As soon as you wake up in the morning, drink a full glass of water at room temperature to activate digestion. You can leave your glass of water on your bedside table overnight so that you don’t have to work your way to the kitchen to pour yourself a glass of water.
2. Midday: Detox vegetable soup
Chop your preferred vegetables, mince 2 cloves of garlic, a thumb-sized piece of ginger, and half an onion. Saute the onion, garlic, and ginger in the olive oil and add water according to the amount of vegetables you have previously cut, boil them until they’re barely tender, and add salt and pepper to taste.
3. Afternoon: Detox Salad
Chop two cups of kale, red cabbage, broccoli, carrots and bell peppers. Dice one avocado, and chop one cup of parsley. For the dressing whisk together the juice of one lemon and ½ teaspoon of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste, and one tablespoon of grated ginger.
Mix everything in a bowl and add the dressing to your taste, you can also sprinkle a handful of your favorite nuts
4. Night: Spinach-berry smoothie
Smoothies are great when you’re on a detox, they’re healthy, quick, and easy to make. Just put all the ingredients in a grinder and grind until smooth. To make an apple berry smoothie just add one cup of mixed berries, one green apple, two cups of spinach, and one cup of water or if you prefer, a cup of almond or coconut milk.
Follow these recipes for three days and then slowly start integrating carbohydrates and animal protein back into your diet.
